Use a representative public URL
Choose a URL that loads without signing in and contains the components you actually need. If a campaign overlay, geolocation banner, or experiment obscures the normal page, disable it for the capture when you control the source. Do not submit pages containing private customer or employee information.
Make the state reproducible
- Use stable seed content instead of rotating headlines or time-sensitive banners.
- Ensure fonts and images are publicly reachable by the page.
- Avoid requiring a destructive action to reveal an important UI state.
- Document interactions that must be represented, such as an open menu or accordion.
- Keep a reference capture and note the viewport dimensions.
Plan replacements before handoff
List the systems that cannot simply transfer: forms, analytics, consent, search, authentication, commerce, and personalized data. Decide which should become static placeholders and which need a real integration in the rebuilt project.
Finally, collect asset licenses and brand rules. Permission to reproduce a page does not automatically grant every embedded third-party font, photo, or video a new distribution right.
